Physio&SoleClinic Physiotherapy, Pre & Postnatal September 30 2020

Your body undergoes many physiological changes during pregnancy, they includes the following:

  • Hormonal change:

Relaxin, a hormone that relaxes the pelvic ligaments, and widens and softens the cervix, in preparation for childbirth.

  • Postural and mechanical change:

As your baby grows, your center of gravity shifts, it may cause overarching in the lower back. This can lead to abdominal muscles being stretched and becoming less activated.

Unfortunately, these changes may result in pelvic girdle pain or lower back pain. It is estimated more than two-thirds of women experience such pains during pregnancy. Seeking help from a pregnancy and postnatal exercise specialist early can help manage and reduce existing symptoms, and ensure that they do not affect your quality of life during and after pregnancy.

Tips for pain relief:

  • Stretching and strengthening exercises:
    • Pelvic tilts aids in the relieve of back aches
    • Pelvic floor exercises are important to maintain core stability and continence
  • Care for your back
